From Waste to Eyewear

Recycling is no longer a niche issue. From packaging to electronic products, the demand for closed material loops is becoming increasingly evident. The circular economy aims to keep resources in circulation, minimise waste and reduce environmental impact over the long term. This is exactly where planctons comes in, making recycling a core part of the brand—specifically in an area where too little is still being done: plastic waste floating in the oceans of Southeast Asia.

Authentic Swissness makes the difference.

At planctons, Swissness is not a marketing buzzword, but a reality we live every day. Every pair of glasses is designed and handcrafted in the small village of Lungern. We understand the high standards of the Swiss optical industry and invest a great deal of time in meeting the needs of optical professionals. Achieving this with recycled ocean plastic has been—and continues to be—a Herculean task. But planctons stands for Swissness, local production, precision and quality. It is this mindset that sets us apart.

When eyewear becomes a statement.

This summer is making environmental headlines: record-breaking heatwaves, more intense solar radiation, earthquakes and an exceptionally long series of wildfires across Europe. What we are currently experiencing is part of a global shift in the climate that is reshaping continents, oceans and entire ecosystems. This makes it all the more important not to cause further damage—for example, through plastic waste that, instead of being properly disposed of, ends up in the sea by the thousands of tonnes.

The glasses to my attitude.

Our latest collection is a hit. It is especially popular with younger, environmentally conscious people who care deeply about the oceans and love wearing planctons. Now that the shapes have become bolder and more fashion-forward, we have definitely won them over. planctons are for everyone who knows what they stand for – and wants the world to see it.

Responsible Consumption: When Products Truly Make Sense

We live in a consumer society—and it leaves its mark. While new products gleam on store shelves, the mountains of waste keep growing. But what if waste wasn’t the end, but the beginning of something new?

Sustainable eyewear as a statement

Sustainable fashion pieces are not only good for the environment, they also have amazing psychological effects on us. Wearing eyewear made from recycled ocean plastic or clothing made from eco-friendly materials influences how we see ourselves and how we are perceived by others. It’s a small step with a big impact – for the planet and our well-being.

Next to the big names in the industry

In the best of company: our glasses have found their place in the VBA salesroom in Olten – alongside well-known top brands such as Rolf Brillen, Andy Wolf and Rodenstock. This is not only a success for us, but also a confirmation that we are in tune with our sustainable values.
