Authentic Swissness makes the difference.
Authentic Swissness makes the difference.
At planctons, Swissness is not a marketing buzzword, but a reality we live every day. Every pair of glasses is designed and handcrafted in the small village of Lungern. We understand the high standards of the Swiss optical industry and invest a great deal of time in meeting the needs of optical professionals. Achieving this with recycled ocean plastic has been—and continues to be—a Herculean task. But planctons stands for Swissness, local production, precision and quality. It is this mindset that sets us apart.
In a world dominated by fast fashion and global supply chains, we take a clear stand: we make things the way they should be made—sustainably, thoughtfully and by hand in Switzerland.
Creating jobs in the region
With its manufacturing facility in Lungern, planctons also creates jobs directly within the region. Craftsmanship, production and logistics remain local instead of being outsourced to anonymous large-scale factories. This strengthens trust in our way of doing business. Every frame we produce is also a contribution to regional value creation.
Innovation and commitment: a meaningful purpose
planctons is innovative because we consistently explore new paths. Turning ocean plastic into eyewear, implementing zero-waste processes and still creating bold, fashion-forward designs is far from standard practice—it is pioneering work.
When we started in 2021, we had no competitors. Today, many have jumped on the sustainability bandwagon, although their approach is often little more than greenwashing. planctons, however, remains true to its principles, even though our glasses are more expensive to produce.
Why? Because we are committed to protecting the oceans and using resources responsibly. This is Swissness that extends far beyond the frame of what is commonly referred to as “sustainability”.
