Swiss eyewear made from ocean plastic
Swiss eyewear made from ocean plastic
Planctons – the Swiss zero waste eyewear for modern, environmentally conscious consumers. We produce ultralight, sustainable eyewear in Switzerland using single-use plastic collected by fishermen from the sea, along the coast and on islands. The result: fashion, ecological production and fairness in every frame.
They’re the sustainable counterpart to the global, industrially produced eyewear for the mass market. Our eyewear is designed and made in Switzerland using 100% ocean plastic. The source material is a granulate developed and produced by the Basel-based company Tide Ocean. Even though this material proved to be insufficiently stable during the initial development phase, we were able to resolve these early quality issues with the source material in plenty of time for the scheduled start of production.
Hand-made in the village of Lungern in Switzerland
Every pair of Planctons glasses is made by hand in the village of Lungern in Obwalden. Our raw materials are sheets of 100% ocean plastic. Our production team uses these to create our unique, environmentally friendly frames. The baseline is our “Swiss zero waste eyewear” program. Not only is our ultralight Swiss plastic eyewear made from 100% recycled ocean plastic – our production process is also zero waste. And when a pair of Planctons glasses reaches the end of its life, it can be returned and recycled yet again. We turn single-use plastic into sustainable consumer goods.
